Dahntay Jones signed a non-guaranteed contract with Brooklyn Nets, according to reports

NBA free agent guard/forward Dahntay Jones is now a player with the Brooklyn Nets, as per an announcement made today by Brooklyn Nets General Manager Billy King

Jones (6’6”, 225) has appeared in 622 games (157 starts) across 11 seasons in the NBA, registering career averages of 5.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 15.7 minutes per game while playing for the Memphis Grizzlies (2003-07), Sacramento Kings (2007-08), Denver Nuggets (2008-09), Indiana Pacers (2009-12), Dallas Mavericks (2012-13), Atlanta Hawks (2013) and the Los Angeles Clippers (2014-15).

Jones has also appeared in 49 playoff games (16 starts) during seven career trips to the postseason, averaging 4.1 points and 1.3 rebounds in 11.1 minutes per game. Last season, Jones played in 33 regular season games for the Clippers, averaging 0.6 points and 0.3 rebounds in 3.7 minutes per game off the bench, as well as 11 postseason games with Los Angeles.

Prior to signing with the Clippers, Jones played 19 games with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the D-League.

The Trenton, N.J., native began his NBA career when he was selected by the Boston Celtics with the 20th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft out of Duke University and was subsequently traded to the Memphis Grizzlies on draft night.

The Brooklyn Nets will open its 2015-16 season at the Barclays Center on Wednesday, October 28, when they entertain the Chicago Bulls, with tipoff at 7:30 p.m. The home opener will be the Bulls' lone appearance in Brooklyn this season.

The Nets will welcome the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors to Brooklyn on Sunday, December 6 at 6:00 p.m., which will tip off a six-game homestand, the longest of the campaign. The homestand also includes an afternoon contest on Saturday, December 12 versus the Los Angeles Clippers at 5:00 p.m.

In addition to the game against the Clippers, the Nets will host four other afternoon contests over the course of the upcoming season. The Nets will entertain the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, December 20 at 1:00 p.m., the Washington Wizards on Saturday, December 26 at 4:00 p.m., the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday, January 24 at 3:30 p.m. and the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, April 3 at 1:00 p.m.

Brooklyn will host the Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, January 20 and Thursday, March 24, while the San Antonio Spurs visit the borough on Monday, January 11, with all three contests starting at 7:30 p.m.

VIDEO: Former Indiana Pacers guard, Donald Sloan, an undrafted NBA player, has best professional season in 2014-15

Brooklyn Nets General Manager Billy King announced the signing of guard Donald Sloan. During Sloan’s four seasons in the NBA, he has played for Atlanta, New Orleans, Cleveland and Indiana. Sloan’s best professional season was 2014-15 with Indiana, posting career-highs in games played (53), starts (21), points per game (7.4), rebounds per game (2.7) and assists per game (3.6).

An undrafted player, Sloan has also spent time in the D-league and has had brief stints in China and The Philippines.

The WNBA Western Conference won the 2015 WNBA All-Star game held on July 25th at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut, defeating the Eastern Conference 117-112.

Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore was the game’s MVP scoring a record 30 points for a WNBA All-Star game. Additionally, Moore posted six rebounds and five assists.

New York Liberty center Tina Charles led all scorers with 13 points in the first half.

This is the last WNBA All-Star appearance for Tamika Catchings, who holds a record 10 WNBA All-Star Game appearances; she is retiring in 2016.

Tamika Catchings and Maya Moore hold new WNBA All-Star Game records

Every big annual event has its storylines and the 2015 WNBA All-Star Game was no different. The 2015 WNBA All-Star game became the first WNBA All-Star Game to be televised on ABC, instead of a 2nd or 3rd tier channel on ESPN.

Minnesota Lynx guard Maya Moore tallied up 30 points, a WNBA All-Star Game record. Moore added six rebounds and five assists.

Indiana Fever forward and 2011 WNBA MVP Tamika Catchings now holds the record of 10 WNBA All-Star Game appearances. Catchings won’t be building on this record because this will be her last WNBA All-Star game. Catchings is retiring in 2016, and because of the 2016 Summer Olympics, there will be no 2016 WNBA All-Star Game.

"It's definitely sentimental," Catchings said, according to ESPN.com's Mechelle Voepel. "This is my last All-Star. My playing career will be over next year, but hopefully the legacy I leave behind will keep going."

Right now, Catchings’ legacy holds another WNBA All-Star game record. Catchings, finishing with eight points, 10 rebounds and six assists, is the all-time WNBA All-Star Game leading scorer with104 points! Historic! 

Our hometown player, New York Liberty center Tina Charles, did her best to represent the East. Charles showed off her brilliance early, leading all scorers with 13 points in the first half.

At game’s end, the WNBA Western conference defeated the East 117-112. And, Minnesota’s Maya Moore showed that she is not only an all-star but, an MVP, too.

So you have Cespedes and Duda 3,4 in the order that’s as good as any righty, lefty as anybody in the league,” explained Jason Schott.

“With Cespedes’ addition to the lineup, Duda’s had three home runs in the last three games, he’s being effective immediately,” What’s The 411Sports host Gregory Alcala added.

“The Mets’ offense has been in the bottom of the league this whole year. It’s like the weirdest balance when you have, might have a top 5 pitching rotation in the bullpen, but you have one of the worst offenses in the league, and when you have that kind of pitching around you, young pitching and everybody being elite, you got to go for it and I think that is what Sandy (Alderson) recognized and he was finally able to get something done,” continued Gregory Alcala.

“I think people were concerned about Sandy not pulling the trigger,” chimed in What’s The 411Sports host Glenn Gilliam.

“Nobody believed Sandy Alderson would actually go for it…”, responded Jason Schott. “This team, they should win the NL East…they should get by the underachieving Nationals and then…the playoffs.”

“And, this is from a Yankees fan over here guys, so you know it’s good information. I couldn’t be happier about it. I’ve got a big family of Mets supporters and we’re not biased here, but we love our Mets!,” exclaimed Glenn Gilliam.

On Monday, July 13, 2015, President Barack Obama granted clemency to the prison sentences of 46 non-violent drug offenders, and one of those prisoners who is set to be freed is the mother of Denver Broncos Demaryius Thomas.

Katrina Smith, the mother of the Denver Broncos wide receiver, incarcerated since 2000, was arrested along with his grandmother, Minnie Pearl Thomas, in 1999 for narcotics trafficking when Demaryius was only 11-years-old.

Smith refused to testify against her mother in exchange for a reduced sentence and was scheduled to be released in 2017, while Minnie Pearl Thomas received a life sentence as a multiple offender.

Now, thanks to President Obama, Katrina Smith will be reunited with her son on November 10, 2015.

The White House issued a press release explaining the action, saying that “federal sentencing practices can, in too many instances, lead nonviolent drug offenders to spend decades, if not life, in prison.”

These unduly harsh sentences are one of the reasons the president is committed to using all the tools at his disposal to remedy unfairness in our criminal justice system. Today, he is continuing this effort by granting clemency to 46 men and women, nearly all of whom would have already served their time and returned to society if they were convicted of the exact same crime today.
